Born in Nancy in 1858, the son of a fine linen-maker and an embroidery designer, Victor Prouvé studied drawing at the municipal school in his native town. A few years later, as a scholarship holder, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he studied under the academic painter Alexandre Cabanel. From 1882 onwards, he exhibited at the Salon de la Société nationale des beaux-arts, where he won several prizes and received his first commissions, Artist : Morgan
