Fullmetal Alchemist: official resources and coloring pages

Fullmetal Alchemist is an adventure and fantasy manga that became one of the defining classics of the 2000s. The story of brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric combines alchemy, travel, combat and political stakes.

This page gathers several official resources to find the manga and its various editions, as well as a selection of Just Color coloring pages related to fantasy themes.

The manga and its two anime adaptations

Fullmetal Alchemist was created by manga artist Hiromu Arakawa. The manga began publication in 2001 in Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine.

The story follows brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, who attempt to use alchemy to bring their mother back to life. The experiment fails: Edward loses part of his body while Alphonse loses his body entirely, his soul becoming bound to a suit of armor. The two brothers then set out to find a way to recover their original bodies.

Alchemy in the story is notably based on the Law of Equivalent Exchange: to obtain something, one must give something of comparable value. This rule plays a central role in the plot and accompanies the characters throughout their journey.

The first anime adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist aired beginning in 2003. Because the manga was not yet complete, that version gradually took a different direction. In 2009, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood offered a new adaptation, this time much closer to the manga's original story through to its conclusion.

The series is often praised for its mix of adventure, humor and more serious themes related to war, power, science and the consequences of characters' choices.
