Chainsaw Man: the manga and its adaptation
Chainsaw Man was created by Japanese manga artist Tatsuki Fujimoto. The manga's first part began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018. The story follows Denji, a very poor young man who lives with Pochita, a small devil endowed with a chainsaw.
After a series of events that upend his life, Denji becomes Chainsaw Man and joins an organization tasked with fighting devils. In this world, those creatures are linked to human fears, which allows the series to present very different kinds of adversaries.
The manga stands out for its mix of action, dark humor and quieter scenes focused on the characters' daily lives. The first part ends in 2020, before the series resumes in 2022 on Shonen Jump+ with new characters and a new part of the story.
An anime adaptation produced by MAPPA began airing in 2022. It covers the early chapters of the manga and helped increase the series' international exposure.
