Demon Slayer: from manga to anime
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was created by Koyoharu Gotouge. The manga began publication in 2016 in Weekly Shonen Jump.
The story follows Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy living in Taishō-era Japan. After his family is attacked by a demon, his sister Nezuko is the only survivor, but she herself is transformed into a demon. Tanjiro then joins the Demon Slayer Corps in the hope of finding a way to restore her human form.
Throughout the story, Tanjiro meets many fighters who each have their own techniques, weapons and fighting styles. The series blends Japanese folklore, fantastic creatures and sword combat.
The anime adaptation produced by ufotable began in 2019 and greatly contributed to the series' international success. It was followed by additional seasons and films covering the manga's different arcs.
Demon Slayer is also known for a strong visual identity, with textile patterns, Japanese landscapes and graphic effects tied to the various combat techniques. The series contains many violent scenes and is aimed at a teen and adult audience.
