Coloring based on a painting by Vincent Van Gogh: Portrait du Docteur Gachet (1890)
Dr. Gachet, a key figure in Vincent Van Gogh's last period in Auvers, was a homeopathic physician with a wide range of interests, including palmistry, and a great passion for the arts. He was an engraver and maintained relationships with renowned artists such as Manet, Monet, Renoir and Cézanne. After his internment at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Van Gogh, on the recommendation of his brother Theo, went to see psychiatric specialist Dr. Gachet. Dr. Gachet supported Vincent in his struggle against his anxieties, and offered him a favorable setting for artistic creation.
Van Gogh painted a portrait of Dr. Gachet, reflecting a period of great creativity. The portrait shows the doctor in a melancholy posture, symbolizing the turmoil of the time. However, a note of hope is provided by the foxglove flower, known for its healing properties. Despite Dr. Gachet's help, van Gogh eventually succumbed to his inner demons and took his own life.
