Coloring page created from a Traditional Japanese Stencil Design - model 3 - Zoom
The stencils are made from pieces of paper layered one on top of one another, stuck together using persimmon sap, making the material impermeable, and then cut.
A mesh of silk thread is stretched between the two parts of the decoration to hold everything in place. One stencil is needed per color.
Their size depends on the width of the panel making up the kimono.
