The Declaration of Independence of the United States - July 4, - 1776 (Historical events Coloring Page)
On July 4, 1776, at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, representatives of the thirteen British colonies in North America adopted the Declaration of Independence, primarily drafted by Thomas Jefferson. This historic document proclaimed the definitive break from the British crown of King George III and affirmed the fundamental rights of all human beings to liberty and equality.
The Continental Congress, which had been in session since July 2, 1776, officially validated the text on July 4, a date that became the American national holiday. Among the 56 signatories were Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and John Hancock. This founding act marked the birth of the United States of America and inspired democratic movements worldwide, including the French Revolution of 1789.
