Gustav Klimt (1862 – 1918) was an Austrian painter and one of the most prominent members of the Art Nouveau movement. He is best known for his highly decorative and erotic paintings, many of which feature gold leaf.
His most famous works include “The Kiss” and “Adele Bloch-Bauer I.”.
Klimt’s work is characterized by a highly decorative style, rich colors, and the use of symbolism.
Klimt’s work was heavily influenced by the work of Japanese artists and he also played a leading role in the development of the Vienna Secession, an art movement that broke away from the traditional academic art institutions.
