Paul Gauguin (1848 – 1903) was a French Post-Impressionist artist. He is known for his bold use of color, his primitive-inspired style, and his Symbolist imagery.

He was one of the most important figures in the Symbolism movement and an important contributor to the development of modern art.

He spent much of his career living and working in French Polynesia, where he was heavily influenced by the local culture and the tropical landscape.
