Erected in the 12th century, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is a campanile located in the city of Pisa, Tuscany. Construction began in 1173 and took almost two centuries, with numerous interruptions due to wars and structural problems. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting millions of visitors every year.

In 1990, the tower was closed to the public for stabilization work, and reopened in 2001 after being straightened by 45 centimetres to ensure its safety.
