Rome's Colosseum (Italy) (Countries, Cities and Monuments Coloring Page)
The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is a landmark monument in Rome. Construction began between 70 and 72 AD under Emperor Vespasian and was completed in 80 AD under his son Titus. Designed to accommodate between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators, it was intended for gladiatorial combat, wild animal hunts and public spectacles.
Its elliptical architecture, 189 metres long, 156 metres wide and over 48 metres high, bears witness to the ingenuity of Roman engineers. Today, despite the damage caused by time and earthquakes, the Colosseum remains a powerful symbol of ancient Rome, attracting millions of visitors every year.
