Coloring page : Henri Matisse - The Horse, The Rider and the Clown (1947)

Coloring page created from Henri Matisse's illustration 'The Horse, The Rider and the Clown' for his illustration book Jazz (1947). 'Of all Matisse's books, Jazz is undoubtedly the most important; it provokes a real revolution in the work of the artist and in the history of contemporary art... The war had darkened Paris and the rare lights which filtered by the windows appeared like miraculous jewels. It is this impression which Matisse had wanted to give by making these brightly colored stars burst on a black background' (Tribute to Tériade). Matisse noted of the illustrations: 'drawing with scissors. Cutting raw in color reminds me of the direct carving of sculptors'.
