The Arts and Crafts movement was an international trend in the decorative and fine arts, born in the United Kingdom, and developed between the 1860s and 1910s. It can be seen as a way of rethinking arts and crafts, at a time when the industrialization is taking off. It affects all areas of visual arts, architecture, decorative arts, paintings and sculptures can be considered the source of Modern Style and Art Nouveau. Two major artists influenced the Arts and Crafts movement : the designer William Morris, and the writer John Ruskin, who advocated a return to an alliance of arts and nature.

William Morris (24 March 1834 – 3 October 1896) was a British textile designer, poet, artist, novelist, architectural conservationist, printer, translator and socialist activist associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement. He was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. His literary contributions helped to establish the modern fantasy genre, while he helped win acceptance of socialism in fin de siècle Great Britain.
